Systems engineering manager leads a team of IT Systems engineers who deploy and sustain a complex network of systems providing support to a geographically separated Network Operating Centers (NOC), Tier 2, Implementation, and Information Assurance (IA) group. The position reports directly to the Sr. Operations Manager with several direct reports. The SE manager will provide 24x7x365 operational support to the program network. The ideal candidate has extensive background in server planning, design and implementation of system engineering projects with an emphasis on maintaining high operational availability and awareness. The position requires a deep understanding of supporting operational environment, maintaining SLA, and customer satisfaction. The primary customer is the operational NOCs. The SE manager interfaces with Tier 3 to move new technologies and features from conceptual stages to implementation. He or she must be independent and knowledgeable to troubleshoot issues and implement new methods to increase productivity and efficiency. The SE manager must have a keen focus on pioneering network evolutions and system automation that streamlines daily processes. They are expected to employ creative problem-solving to answer operational issues.

Job Duties:
  • Provide high-level customer service to the Operations group
  • Oversee maintenance, administration and availability of NOC servers across multiple domains
  • Ensure that maintenance, repair, patching and general upkeeps are conducted outside peak traffic hours
  • Provide timely updates to NOC personnel and operation manager on events impacting the operations
  • Develop, maintain, and brief weekly and monthly status update on system environment and pertinent activities
  • Provide Tier 3 support for new design, equipment, and software requirements
  • Follow established standards and change management policies
  • Manage system engineers team to support new product development.
  • Lead and direct requirements and architecture process areas.
  • Drive technical excellence for meeting technical standards and processes.
  • Oversee measure and assess system performance and report impact to network operations and develop innovative solution to avert critical failures
  • Plan short- and long-range projects to increase system efficiency
  • Drive system platform adoption and usage
  • Handle routine maintenance and troubleshoot unexpected issues
  • Direct reports: 5-7 Windows/Linux Administrators and Engineers with the potential for additional personnel
  • Analyze existing operating procedures and determine development and quality improvement plan
  • The position is demanding and often time requires excess of 40-hr work-week
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to subordinates
  • SE manager is expected to develop shift schedule to provide 24x7 on-site operational support
  • Up to 15% travel can be expected due to possible deployments to lab facilities and other NOC locations
  • Bachelor s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Active TS/SCI
  • 8 - 10 years related experience.
  • 1 year previous supervisory / leadership experience required
  • Must maintain eligibility for access to classified information
  • Ability to quickly adapt to advancing technologies and procedural changes
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other technologists and business partners to maintain high service levels in a demanding environment
  • Ability to work well in team environment
