Aircraft Mechanic

Industry: DoD
Location: Tampa, FL (extensive travel required)
Salary: $25 - $30/hr.
Employment Type: Contract to Permanent
Clearance: Ability to obtain

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Airframes portion of the FAA A&P license preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in aircraft structural repair.
  • Must have a good knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical hand tools and be able to effectively use them (Hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and scales, pneumatic and electric drills, rivet guns, fastening tools such as clamps and clecos shop equipment such as drill presses, brakes and shears etc.).
  • Must be able to work from parts lists, assembly drawings, schematics, and engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, company workmanship standards and company manufacturing procedures/work instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must have a sound understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards.
  • Must be willing and able to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods, for site installations and be willing to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to obtain DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Duties:
  • Read work orders, follow production and sample assemblies, diagrams, parts lists and receive verbal instructions regarding duties.
  • Measure parts to determine specified tolerance.
  • Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blue prints to fabricate complex assemblies.
  • Fabricates parts from raw materials.
  • Drills, taps, reams, countersinks, and spot faces bolt holes in parts.
  • Position and aligns parts.
  • Bolts, screws and rivets parts together to close tolerances.
  • Disassembles and replaces parts as required.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts and assemblies.
  • Marks identifying information on parts.
  • Inventory assign toolbox and sign inventory sheet.
  • Assist in tool room inventory.
  • Assist in simulator teardown and packing of simulator components for shipment.
