Overview:
Lead day-to-day operations of a commercial calibration and repair laboratory supporting customer requirements and company objectives. This role oversees technical operations, customer service, shipping & receiving, quality functions, and field drivers while maintaining direct interaction with customers, corporate teams, and sales partners.
This position operates at a high level of independence, determining methods and procedures for complex assignments while guiding and developing team members. The role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to resolve highly complex operational and technical challenges in a regulated, fast-paced environment.
The Operations Manager will supervise both exempt and non-exempt staff, including direct oversight of supervisory personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day lab operations while meeting and exceeding financial objectives, including full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility.
  • Lead and develop technical, administrative, customer service, and logistics teams to ensure high performance and accountability.
  • Oversee and manage key variable expense accounts and ensure efficient use of labor and operational resources.
  • Maintain and support laboratory accreditations and scope requirements including ISO/IEC 17025, UKAS, KEMA, and other applicable standards.
  • Drive operational efficiency initiatives to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality and turnaround time.
  • Support resolution of complex technical issues related to Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
  • Manage laboratory assets to maximize utilization and identify opportunities for capability expansion.
  • Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and special projects.
  • Evaluate and recommend capital equipment purchases with appropriate technical and financial justification.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in calibration and repair, including Physical Dimensional, RF/Microwave, and general test equipment calibration. PMEL or equivalent technical training strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of supervisory or management experience in a technical service environment.
  • 2+ years of proven P&L management and lab budgeting experience.
  • Experience managing technical service teams within a comparable industry.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work in a highly technical, fast-paced environment with independent decision-making responsibilities.
