Employment Type: 1 Year Temporary Project

Schedule: Monday Thursday, 7:00am 5:30pm (enjoy a built-in 3-day weekend!)

Step into a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment where you will be responsible for Legacy Product and New Product for the Distribution Components product lines (including all aspects of product design/test/certification, Existing product improvements, Obsolescence, Product Family Group Qualification, RCCA, Customer/Supplier technical interface). You will conduct engineering assignments including the design analysis and re-design of existing products and components to reduce product costs and improve quality. You will maintain design control, provide production support, and assist with customer and supplier support of existing parts and products on as needed basis to assure problem resolution and growth of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Use systematic, data driven problem solving processes such as 8D, A3, DMAIC, PDCA to solve design and manufacturing problems
  • Independently evaluate use of non-conforming parts, processes and assemblies to determine their usability in the end product while ensuring that the quality and functionality of the product will be maintained.
  • Evaluate obsolete materials, parts and components and identifies sources for direct replacement.
  • Develop engineering and design validation test programs per Military, SAE, RTCA DO-160, Customer(s) and EN standards, perform testing as needed, and document results.
  • Participate in testing conducted by Outside Testing Laboratories as necessary.
  • Perform tolerance stack up analysis to validate that product will function as designed.
  • Perform MTBF calculations for legacy and modified distribution components.
  • Prepare documentation and participate in communications with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and Customers.
  • Provide cost estimate when product is modified per Customer request.
  • Document change in design, bill of materials and/or test methods using CR/CN process.
  • Review and approve changes proposed by Manufacturing, Purchasing and Suppliers.
  • Review Customers technical inquiries and requests to modify products.
  • Train production associates in the proper process methods and use of tooling and equipment.
  • Mentor interns and new engineers.
  • Act as a key member in supporting and resolving 8D problem solving investigations.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime or flex schedules as necessary to business.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical or a related Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment working as an engineer.
  • Mechanical and technical background in electrical and mechanical systems with hands-on experience
  • Solid understanding of the electrical and mechanical properties of engineering materials.
  • Ability to read/understand prints (including GD&T), routings, bill of materials and process sheets.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply Engineering Aerospace Standards and Specifications (MIL, SAE, RTCA, International (EN) and Customer Proprietary)
  • Ability to collect and interpret data necessary for problem solving.
  • Broad knowledge of fabrication, assembly and test processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Ability to provide component, assembly, tooling, and equipment cost estimates.
  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts, Six Sigma tools and 8D problem solving tools.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and computer).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with conflicting schedules and priorities while maintaining cross-organizational support to complete tasks.
  • Understands electrical theory as it relates to product requirements
  • Understanding electrical circuits and electronic components used in Distribution Components.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience working as an engineer in the Aerospace industry
  • Experience with PTC CREO, CATIA, SolidWorks, Configuration Control, PLM System, SAP
  • Fluent in French and/or Spanish
