Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Location: Huntsville, AL

Industry: Engineered Systems / Defense Manufacturing

Salary: $120k-$150k

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field (e.g. electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering etc.) and a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of experience as an instrumentation and controls engineer.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, system description documents, proposals , scopes of work, white papers, reports, trade studies. Must be Proficient with MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, Etc.)
  • Ability to design and engineer instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems. Previous commercial or DOE nuclear experience a strong plus.
  • Design and engineer systems and equipment requiring motion control
  • Perform control system integration with Adams Hexagon using MATLAB
  • Must have US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong plus.
  • Ability to utilize Electrical Analysis packages such as ETAP or SKM to perform load flow, short circuit, harmonic analysis, motor starting, AC and DC Arc Flash studies and protection/ coordination studies for low voltage systems of moderate complexity is a plus.
  • Experience with developing calculations using the Nuclear qualified version of ETAP is preferred.
  • Expert level knowledge of industry standards NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and UL 508A.
  • Working knowledge of EMI MIL standards, NUREGs, IEEE grounding standards, IEEE color books, IEC and DOE electrical standards is preferred.
  • Ability to conceptualize an electrical design of high complexity for nuclear and non-nuclear projects during the bid phase of projects.
  • Ability to prepare engineering and design documents requiring the rigor and detail of NQA-1, 10CFR50 Appendix B or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems and equipment, components and instrumentation used in industrial applications.
  • This work will be working on the design of process systems, mechanical equipment, mechanisms found in nuclear power plants, commercial and government nuclear fuel processing plants, chemical plants, refineries and power plants.
  • Prepare design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, systems design descriptions, proposals, whitepapers, trade studies models, drawings and calculations.
  • Develop and give presentations (e.g. Power Point) to colleagues, customers and management.
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results
  • Prepares and studies technical drawings, specifications of instrumentation and controls and electrical systems, to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements.
  • Plan and implement research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects. Develops statement of work, prepares related schedules for broad set of engineering activities within discipline or related discipline
  • Develop budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
