Job Description

Machinist

Salary: Up to $50/hr
Location: Stratford, CT (fully on-site)
Industry: Government/Defense
Employment Type: Long term contract with potential for permanent employment
Shift: 1st shift, 4/10 (Monday Thursday)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in a related field is a plus but not required.
  • 5 years of experience in a precision machining environment.
  • Proven track record in creating and modifying programs using Mastercam software.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in work-holding arrangements and unusual material handling.
  • Solid understanding of fabrication methods and production processes.
  • Ability to perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and other quality control procedures.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with CAD/CAM software.
  • Capable of developing charts, diagrams, and standard reports for data analysis and process improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of activities which involve standard procedures.
  • Gathers and manipulates common data, verifies adequacy and appropriateness.
  • Develops charts, diagrams, and standard reports.
  • Set up and operate standard electronic or mechanical equipment used to develop, produce and/or test products or process data.
  • Plans the layout, fabrication, and testing of mechanical devices.
  • Sets up and operates any type of precision machine tool to make original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices for experimental purposes.
  • May be required to solve problems relative to work-holding arrangement, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods for production process.
  • Performs precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions for research engineers in a developmental laboratory condition. Some machines may be numerically controlled.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
