Manufacturing Import / Export Specialist

Salary: $22-$28/hr Depending on Experience & Degree

Overview:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for day-to-day processing of import and export compliance processes, performing classification of goods, and updating ERP systems. They will manage annual Free Trade Agreement certification process.

Qualifications:

• B.A. degree in international business, supply chain, or legal highly preferred.
• 5 years of work experience in logistics, shipping, freight forwarding or customs brokerage.
• Must have auditing expertise, attention to detail, ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
• Must have knowledge of customs import and/or export
• Must have the ability to use Excel at a high level, including to create charts and presentations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated import/export compliance coordination in a similar industry.
• Knowledge of Foreign Trade Regulations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Regulations highly preferred.
• Knowledge of INCOTERMS highly preferred.
• Department of Transportation, International Air Transport Association, and HAZMAT requirements preferred.
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to ITAR. All applicants must be US persons within the meaning of ITAR (US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Duties:

• Regular, predictable attendance is required. Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
• Export Compliance Officer may assign other duties or tasks.
• Responsible for import and export day-to-day activities including: auditing transactions, coordinating with brokers and forwarders, reviewing and approving billing invoices.
• Work closely with Export Compliance Officer to develop processes that ensure compliance with all US government requirements.
• Effectively classify products through collaboration with internal parties; as well as, by means of self-classification methods for both exports and imports (ex. Jurisdiction, classification, HTS and Schedule B). Document and retain supporting records electronically.
• Provide guidance and support to the company regarding international transportation, insurance, storage, customs agents, landed costs, duty and taxes, etc.
• Support preparation and verification of shipping documentation and follow-up to ensure import and export declarations are completed timely and accurately.
• Identify areas of improvement to implement change in alignment with compliance guidelines and meet company cost saving initiatives.
• Responsible for administrative duties and customer service as needed such as travel and system access approvals and other documentary approvals required for import and exports.
• Support Free Trade Agreement projects on an annual basis by requesting certificates, auditing certificates and requesting revisions. Working with purchasing and supply chain to update ERP system details.
• Update classification information in ERP system. Run product classification database reports and distribute to broker and other parties as needed.
• Run reports and perform post entry audit activities.
• Draft export licenses.
• Collect and report on compliance metrics.
• Responsible to review and revise compliance procedures and work instructions.
• Special projects as assigned
