Mechanical Engineer

Location: Merritt Island, FL

Salary: $33-40/hr

Industry: Aerospace/Manufacturing

Employment Type: 6 month assignment w/ potential for extension or conversion

Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4pm with some flexibility

Overview:

We are searching for an enthusiastic, qualified engineering who will join the GSE group. The GSE group interacts directly with vehicle production, launch systems, and other test and operational groups. They put a strong emphasis on design capability and hands-on technical ability, as the engineers are directly involved with design, analysis, equipment operation, trouble-shooting, and active engagement with engineering and maintenance personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelors college degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, structural, industrial, or manufacturing engineering; or other major requiring engineering or manufacturing core courses.
  • 0-2+ years experience with design and integration of mechanical systems (mechanisms, power transmission components, hydraulics, fluids systems, etc.), electrical systems/components, control systems, support frames/structures, and/or lifting fixtures.
  • Experience with CAD modeling required.
  • Hand calculations of structural and mechanical components required.

Desired:

  • FEA Analysis and hand calculations of structural and mechanical components.
  • Extremely customer focused with strong communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
  • Experience with CAD packages.
  • Hands on fabrication, assembly, or maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with Industry Code Standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities will include conceptual design, cost estimating, schedule estimating, requirements definition, detailed design, procurement, vendor management, design reviews, analysis, commissioning, and production floor support.
  • The work will be performed in a multi-functional team role with manufacturing engineering, facilities engineering, and project management functions.
  • Design and manage tooling through development and build life cycle to support production.
  • Perform analysis (Hand Calculations & FEA) to support tooling design.
  • Create Statement of Works (SOW) for tooling to be designed and built by external vendors.
  • Be responsible Engineer for induvial tooling projects.
  • Coordinate directly with manufacturing, operations, and product development personnel to understand operational requirements and develop GSE to meet those requirements.
  • Design of Concept CAD models using PTC Creo.
  • Review and approve drawings for drawing standards and manufacturability.
  • Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle (requirements gathering through delivery and acceptance) to ensure GSE is functionally correct and meets requirements set forth in specifications.
  • Represent GSE considerations in manufacturing, operational, and program technical reviews.
  • Oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Active involvement in functional checkouts and commissioning of equipment.
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status.
  • Participate in continuous training and skills development.
  • Create and present technical documentation that clearly conveys design intent and adherence to standards, requirements, and specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision.
