Medical Insurance Billing Representative

Location: Hauppauge, NY

Type: Contract-to-hire
Hours: Monday-Friday, shift hours range between 8am-6pm
Salary: 17+/hr. (based off experience)

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for entering, editing, and transmitting claims information, insurance eligibility, and demographic characteristics into the company billing system
  • Creates and mails insurance claims and patient statements
  • Analyze claims and ensure that there is no missing or incomplete information
  • Performs all stages of the billing process to properly bill Medicare and Medicaid as well as track remittance from Medicare and Medicaid accordingly
  • Posts insurance payments accurately to patient accounts in computerized system
  • Re-bill insurance companies or other third parties to secure payment for patients
  • Identifies patient billing and statement concerns in a timely manner
  • Verifies updated insurance and patient information as well as retrieve missing claim information and validate the information on all medical claims received
  • Troubleshoot any problems encountered in the verification process thus lessening the likelihood of payment and collection problems
  • Makes recommendations to management for write-offs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, required
  • 1+ years of related work experience
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
  • Accurately perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Effectively communicate in English; both oral and written
  • Interpret a variety of communications (verbal, non-verbal, written, listening and visual)
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion and caution when handling sensitive information
  • Multi-task along with attention to detail
  • Self-motivation, organized, time-management and deductive problem-solving skills
  • Work independently and as part of a team

  • Lift and carry office equipment at times around the office
  • Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking, and listening
  • Requires close vision to small print on computer and/or tablet and paperwork
