Product Development Manager

Purpose:

This individual acts as the primary liaison between program management, engineering, production and Supply Chain Management (SCM) functions throughout the company. This position is responsible for the timely management and procurement of raw materials, fixtures, tools, MRO items and services within established cost, quality and delivery guidelines as it relates to quoting new projects and bringing new projects into production. A new project is taken from quote to the FAI stage the BOM will then be loaded into SAP where the buyers take over SCM responsibility.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the SCM function for the program and BOM from quote through FAI stage
  • Determines expected lead time and develops a schedule with critical milestones while providing regular report-outs to ensure suppliers meets all schedule requirements
  • Provides direction regarding print/design review, technical publication interpretation, source selection, price, and terms negotiation for new products
  • Accepts and scrutinizes supplier quotes and/or proposals and ensures competitive cost and lead times
  • Leads robust programmatic material cost reduction efforts to meet organizational goals on gross margin and quote win rate
  • Selects/develops sources based upon analysis, ensuring the use of preferred suppliers as directed by the strategic commodity management team
  • Monitors short and long term material requirements, develops and implements effective plans to ensure material availability and capacity at selected suppliers
  • Performs thorough analysis of all outside processing for the company as well as sub suppliers
  • Involves suppliers early in design process to optimize design and reduce cost
  • Works closely with engineering to optimize Company s design for value initiatives
  • Participates in and supports make/buy analysis projects for new programs
  • Maintains product costs within established goals for each component and overall BOM
  • Maintains an in-depth working knowledge of computerized manufacturing systems: SAP,ERP, Bill of Material structure, Kanban, JIT and Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Actively works with the commodity management team to develop new qualified and cost effective sources of supply when a new service, process, or component is identified.
  • Ensures all BOM purchased components are loaded correctly in SAP with accurate cost, lead time, and supplier attributes
  • Takes a proactive role in continuous improvement of SAP and maintaining data integrity and parameters
  • Manages approval process for new suppliers including Annual Reps & Certs, Supplier Set-up, and Terms negotiations
  • Small Business Plan Development and Adherence
  • Develop BOM tracking for each and every part (schedule), publish monthly report showing on or behind schedule and parts in risk (delivery and cost)

Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Business, Operations or Supply Chain Management preferred; or CPIM
  • 5-7 years Supply Chain Management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in ERP systems, SAP desired
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
  • Ability to multi-task, handling quick turn-around
  • Ability to identify problem issues and escalate and/or execute acceptable solutions
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, suppliers, and employees/managers at all levels within the company
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain safe work environment
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
